GLOBAL CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES: EXAMINING AND ADDRESSING THE UN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS THROUGH VIRTUAL EXCHANGE PROJECT-BASED LEARNINGMarch 8 | 11:00AM - 12:15 PMEllipse (Technology Building) & ZOOMREGISTER HEREABOUT THIS SESSION:The University Global Coalition in partnership with SUNY has designated the week of March 6 as UN Sustainable Development Goals Action and Awareness Week. This session aims to promote awareness of the 17 interconnected SDGs among students in higher education and inspire them to take action in addressing these goals locally or globally. Faculty from various departments who have mapped their virtual exchange collaborations to the SDGs will discuss their team-based projects that address one or several of these goals. Through their collaborations, students are empowered and better prepared to create a more sustainable future for all.

ABOUT PANELISTS:Catherine Roche is a full-time faculty member in the Business Department at SUNY Rockland Community College. In 2013, she was awarded the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching. She is a former Business Department and Business Division/Professional Studies Chair. Prof. Roche has served as the campus COIL Coordinator since 2014 and has been involved in virtual exchange collaborations with Morocco, the Netherlands, Iraq, Colombia, and Jordan. She is an advocate for online and experiential learning and served as a mentor for Business Honors students for six years. She has co-authored six publications and presented at numerous national and international conferences.
Eileen MacAvery Kane is an Associate Professor of Art at SUNY Rockland Community College, where she teaches Digital Art, Motion Graphics, Typography, Graphic Design, and Art History. She leads Academic Travel courses, has collaborated with countries across the globe in COIL and Global Solutions. Prof. MacAvery Kane has over 30 years experience as an artist, graphic designer, and art educator. She is an author and a designer of the books and journal: "Her six word story, often untold", "East End Stories", "Teacup Secrets", and "Ethics: A Graphic Designer’s Field Guide", as well as blogs

Katherine Copp-Brown
(coming soon)Patricia E. Szobonya is an Associate Professor and the Program Director of Legal Studies, Paralegal Studies, and Criminal Justice at Rockland Community College. She is a graduate of New York Law School and licensed to practice law in New York and New Jersey. She also teaches in the Legal Studies, Criminal Justice, Business and Multi-Cultural Studies Departments. Prof. Szobonya has participated in academic international virtual collaborations with Universities in Morocco, China, Mexico, Columbia, Dominican Republic, and South Africa. She co-authored several publications on Virtual Exchange and has presented at numerous national and international conferences.
