For faculty and students alike, feelings associated with the excitement of the “first day of school” may now be dampened by new fears and uncertainty. The Elephant in the (Class)Room

JOIN NOW (ZOOM)

Unconscious bias in a classroom setting has been shown to impact the personal and academic development of students. In this session, participants will initially be presented with an opportunity to examine their own beliefs and behaviors in their interactions with students. The presentation will then explore some common instructor preconceptions with methods for minimizing them in and out of the classroom. Attendees will also be encouraged to consider some new biases that may have been formed during emergency remote teaching due to the pandemic, and how they might influence post-pandemic classroom teaching.

PRESENTER:
• Dr. Rebha Sabharwal | Assistant Professor of Sociology
• Eileen MacAvery Kane | Associate Professor of Graphic Design

4:30 PM - 5:00 PM
We Are Lifelong Learners -
A Discussion on Faculty Professional Development

JOIN NOW (ZOOM)

Faculty are key to students’ learning journeys. As lifelong learners themselves, they need resources, support, and ongoing development to help them provide the very best educational experiences. While the College offers a variety of learning, training, and development opportunities, many seemingly do not meet the needs or interests of RCC faculty. The purpose of this open-floor discussion is for the Professional Development Committee to hear about specific topics that our faculty find relevant and applicable to student learning today. The session will also provide brief information on attendance records for RTP portfolios, Spring 2022 Call for Presenters, and Go2Knowledge.

MODERATORS:
• Dr. Jeff McLean | Associate Professor of Biology and President of RCC Faculty Senate
• Dr. Kristopher Baker | Professor of Biology
• Maggie Cohen | Professional Development Coordinator/Title V Conexion
