Overview:

The syllabus is often the first impression we make on our students. How can we use the syllabus to light up our students and amplify our commitment to an inclusive and welcoming environment from the very beginning? Current research shows that a more inclusive syllabus has a positive impact on students in a variety of ways. Nusbaum et al. found that an engaging visual syllabus contributed to students' positive perception of the professor. Fuentes et. al examined the effects of the syllabus on students and found that infusing the syllabus with more inclusive language fosters a climate of support that is more conducive to students’ learning.
